SPORTING CHANCE FOR YOUTH DAY

On Saturday June 7, 2008 union members demonstrated the Union's continued support of Riverfront Recaptures, Sporting Chance for Youth (ages 5-14) by volunteering their time at the Sporting Chance for Youth Day on the CT River at Riverside Park. The day exposed over a thousand kids to the River and it's potential activities, as well as a number of sporting opportunities complete with a cookout. HELPING CITY RESIDENTS BEAT THE HEAT

During the months of June and July the Union donated a number of portable air conditioners to various community organizations to be distributed to residents in need of regulated tempatures due to health concerns and graceful aging over the oppressive summer season. On many occasions the heat takes a tremendous toll on the health and wellfare of those who are homebound.

UNION ANNOUNCES CREATION OF "HELP N ELF" FUND

The union has committed to match contributions made by it's members and the public to the  "HELP N ELF" fund. The total committment is $1,000.00. The fund will be used to purchase and deliver Christmas cheer in the form of holiday gifts to children and families in Hartford. The gifts which are anticipated to be delivered by police officers via police cruiser on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will hopefully add some joy to a number of families in these difficult financial times. Donations may be made at the Hartford Police Credit Union or by contacting  the Hartford Police Union at 548-1435 Monday - Friday 9 am to 3 pm. Request for gift donations may also be made by contacting the Union Office. 

HOLIDAY DONATION TO FOOD SHARE

On Monday, November 24th Vice President Richard Holton presented a check of $400.00 to Food Share as the Union's  contribution to their Thanksgiving food drive. Food Share based in Bloomfield, Connecticut provides donated food products to Hartford area families and community based organizations in need.

INTERVAL HOUSE 

The union continued its support of Interval House, a provider of services to victims of domestic violence including the operation of short term shelters, by suppling the Hartford shelter with a  Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings for  residents and staff at the facility on Thanksgiving Day. Photos are not available due to the confidential location of the shelter.

EXECUTIVE BOARD SUPPORTS HARTFORD POLICE EXPLORERS

On February 17, 2009 the Union Executive Board approved the donation of $1,000.00 to the Hartford Police Explorers. The Police Explorer program is operated by members of the Hartford Police Departments Commmunity Service Division and is affliated with the Boyscouts of America. Numerous current and retired police officers have been involved in or with the Police Explorer program. Members of the program are male and female Hartford residents between the ages of 13 and 18.
