MALLOY & ASSOCIATES DESIGNATED AS UNION LOBBYIST

The Union is pleased to announce that the the services of the lobbying firm of Malloy & Assosciates has been retained by the Union for the purpose of lobbying and education in the interest of the Union membership at the State Capitol. Delores Malloy and her staff are excited and honored to be selected by the Union leadership to represent the interest of our dedicated members at the State level. As a result of this arrangement President Rodriguez has been designated a comunnicator lobbyist for the Hartford Police Union.

CITY & UNION COMMENCE NEGOTIATION PROCESS

Both the City and the Union have submitted letters to commence bargaining on a successor collective bargaing agreement (contract). The collective bargaining agreement outlines the conditions of employment for members of the Union. These conditions include wages, health care and pension benefits, hours of work and a multitude of working conditions. Both parties are clearly aware of the economic conditions of the nation and the hope is to produce a constructive process with respect for the employees who are charged with the most difficult and dangerous job in public employment.

UNION MEMBERSHIP REJECTS CITY'S CONCESSION PROPOSALS

At a special Union membership meeting on March 20th, 2009, attended by over two hundred members, the City's give-back only proposal was unanimously rejected.The membership through it's President endorsed opportunities to continue discussions with the City that encompassed more long term solutions and union involvement. Partcipation in give-back only discussions was not approved. A formal response has been sent to the City.
